   I have begun work on my next book, which will be a comprehensive history of the peoples of the nation of Georgia.

   I will be reading a paper on Circassian attempts to create an effective government during the Russo-Circassian War of 1800-1864 at the conference "Hierarchy and Power in History" at the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow in June, 2009.

   I have two articles on the Circassian deportation forthcoming in the United States and Turkey.

   My book, The Northwest Caucasus: Past, Present, Future (Routledge Press, 2008) is now available here. Here is an excerpt from Chapter Four concerning the deportation of the Circassians from their homeland in the 1860s.
